Welcome Back
It was great to see the smiling faces of our school community back at Lalor Primary School this week. I think we are all excited about the new colour scheme which has been introduced to the exterior of the school and the grade 5/6 staff and students will have been pleased to note the air-conditioning which has been added to their area. Over the term 1 holidays, the asphalted area will be covered with a synthetic surface, which will include markings for a basketball & netball court, bat tennis courts, volleyball court and a variety of other fun games. This new area will be a bright new addition to the school and will be ready for the students to enjoy in term 2. Start Up Program For the first two weeks of term 1, all students will be involved with our “Start Up” program where the staff and students collaborate to create a safe and comfortable learning environment. Class rules are developed and cybersmart safety habits and class routines are also established. For the teaching staff we will have our maths consultant Michael Ymer visiting classrooms on February 15 & 16 to model lessons and give feedback to our staff. Communication Communication between school and home is vital. Please ensure you are connected to Tiqbiz, our website, our fortnightly newsletter and occasionally my blog to stay informed. We also have a Facebook page which regularly highlights the great things happening at Lalor Primary School. If at any time you need assistance with any of these forms of communication please come and see us in the office and we will be happy to help you. Program of Inquiry - Community This term, our inquiry learning will explore the concept of Community. Prep will learn about different communities to which people belong and why people live, work and play in communities. They will consider how they can be a good friend to sustain their classroom community. Grade 1/2 will learn about the services in their community. They will consider sustainable practices as they design and construct model buildings for their precinct in their community. Grade 3/4 will learn about the lives of the first Australians before European settlers arrived in Australia and the causes and reasons for the journey of the first fleet. Students will be thinking and acting as historians as they are immersed in stories of first contact between indigenous Australians and European Settlers. Grade 5/6, through investigations of our democratic system and principles, will consider where democracy exists in their lives. They will examine contemporary issues through the lens of democracy and consider the strengths and challenges we face as a national community. Thank you for reading my first blog post! Please feel free to post a comment or question and I will be sure to respond. Kind regards, Trevor Robinson Principal Comments are closed.
