Communication involves both the sending and receiving of information. At Lalor Primary School, we pride ourselves on ensuring information is sent to parents via a variety of mediums, each one designed for a specific purpose. Of course, this is only a good strategy if our parents understand how to best receive what we are sending!
With this in mind, this post is all about how we communicate. Let’s start with an overview of the mediums employed by Lalor PS.
Ideally, all parents will be connected to Tiqbiz. All reminders, notifications, urgent happenings etc. will be communicated via this medium.
Permission slips, forms to return etc. and occasionally a reiteration of important Tiqbiz notifications.
Showcase of what the students have been doing at school as well as a reiteration of important Tiqbiz notifications. Events calendar.
Housing of general information; class structures, policies etc. Events calendar.
General information for all parents including term dates and curriculum days.
Weekly blog, covering a range of topical issues which is housed on our website.
Highlights the great things happening at Lalor Primary School.
Tiqbiz can be used on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Download the app or access Tiqbiz on the internet via tiqbiz.com
If you are using the app, you can also send absent notes to your child’s teacher via the ‘absent’ button.
If a note is sent home, it generally signifies important information or a permission slip/form which needs to be returned. A regular check of bags is a good idea, however we also encourage the notion of the responsibility being placed on the children. Get them into a habit of emptying their bag every afternoon and agree on a regular spot in the bag where the notes are to be stored. This is a method I found to be particularly effective with my own children.
If a note needs to be returned to school, perhaps show your child where the note is in their bag or even better, have them place it in the bag themselves. Responsibility is a key cultural attribute at Lalor Primary School and this is a fabulous way to reinforce this in their daily routine.
Newsletters are issued fortnightly via tiqbiz and e-mail and are also stored on our website for future reference.
Our website houses general information and is designed as a reference centre for current and future parents. For current parents, the “Events” column on the homepage is a handy way to see what is coming up for the school community.
The ability to select different languages through google translator is found at the top of every page of our website.
A link to the Parent Handbook can be found on our homepage under the heading, “Polices and Parent Handbook”. The handbook is updated yearly and contains general information for parents including term dates and curriculum days.
This blog will be published weekly and will cover a range of topical issues. A link to each new blog post will be published on our Facebook page and also published to our website.
Our Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/lalorps and is where we highlight the great things happening at school. Important notifications for parents and carers will not appear on our Facebook page.
If at any time you need assistance with any of these forms of communication please come and see us in the office and we will be happy to help you get connected.
This wraps up the overview of how we communicate with you, but you might be wondering how you talk to us? Stay tuned as this will be the subject of next week’s post.
Have a wonderful week.
