Welcome to the Specialist area

Oral Language - Rosa Ilardi

In Oral Language students in prep to Grade 2 use developmental play to increase their oral vocabulary.

Research shows a strong correlation between the amount of words a child is exposed to and the size of the vocabulary they develop. Children who heard over 2000 words an hour had vocabularies at 3 years of age around 1116 words, however children who had heard only 600 words per hour had developed vocabularies of just 525 words by 3 years of age. However it is not just the quantity of language but also the quality of language a child is exposed to that matters.
Visual Arts - Talia Papas

Visual Arts at Lalor is a place where each student can develop creative thinking and problem solving skills. Students are able to explore and learn about the Elements of Art and artistic techniques through such things as drawing, painting and constructing. Students learn to plan and experiment with their ideas to create something of their own. Opportunities are provided for students to use many different materials and techniques as well as opportunities to explore creating art using technology such as iPads and photography.

Physical Education - Rebecca Thorpe

Lalor Primary School’s Health and Physical Education (PE) program is fantastic at-
  • getting students moving,
  • teaching students to think about their health
  • developing their skills to work in teams.
Our PE program encourages all students to have a go at all activities by providing a supportive environment, where a lifelong appreciation for health and physical participation can be fostered. This program teaches students a variety of skills, techniques and values that they can use to be positive sports participants now and in the future. In PE safety and inclusion is paramount to the success and enjoyment for every student in every lesson.
