On Wednesday the 19th of August over 100 students in grades five and six from schools across Melbourne participated in Collingwood Football Club’s annual Multicultural Schools Cup at the Holden Centre (Formally known as the Westpac Centre). The participating schools were St Joseph’s Primary School (A & B Teams), Thomastown Meadows Primary School, Sholem Aleichem College and Lalor Primary School.
The participating teams in the competition were invited based on their involvement in a six-week school based program delivered by Collingwood Multicultural Officer Tim Hunt.
I am extremely proud to announce that LALOR PRIMARY SCHOOL had a clean sweep winning both the Boys and Girls Cups for 2015 and deservingly crowned as PREMIERS!
After winning all of their matches and finals, Lalor PS Boys defeated Thomastown Meadows Primary School in the Grand Final, while in almost identical fashion Lalor PS Girls defeated St Joseph’s PS in the girls’ Grand Final.
AFL Multicultural Ambassadors were on hand to present the trophies to both teams and individual premiership medallions to players.
For their leadership and outstanding skills displayed two of our students were also awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) medallions:
Boys: Gadier 5/6BL
Girls: Mary-Jane 5/6O
I was so pleased to see the hard work and training put in by the students pay off on the day. The 'never give up' attitude displayed by all of our players was outstanding and they have made the extended Lalor Primary School community extremely proud.
I would like to thank Mrs Ryan for her support of the teams and the brilliant coaching of Mrs Caroline Van Oorschot on the day. A special thank you also to Abier Barakat for taking time out of her busy schedule to help on the day as our photographer.
Congratulations again to both teams - LALOR PRIMARY SCHOOL: MULTICULTURAL CUP PREMIERS 2015!
